How to fix: “chromedriver” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software?

Did you just moved from windows / Linux system to Mac and getting trouble in invoking Google Chrome using chromedriver for Mac?

Once we try to invoke chromedriver using our test scripts that were working perfectly fine in windows/ Linux systems we get an error:

“chromedriver” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Here is the fix:

  • Press command+space to open spotlight
  • Type Terminal and hit enter
  • Navigate to the chromedriver directory in terminal

        Ishan@MAC007 ~ % cd AutomationFramework/drivers/

Note: I have stored all cross-browser, cross-OS drivers in same directory .drivers/

  • Type below command to quarantine chromedriver and add it as a trusted source on your Mac:

Ishan@MAC007 drivers % xattr -d com.apple.quarantine chromedriver

That's it! Execute you testscript now, Happy Testing!

Note: You will need to execute this command every time you update Mac chromedriver

“chromedriver” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
